ASIST is a two-day training program designed to instruct individuals in helping those who may be at risk of suicide. While many healthcare professionals utilise ASIST, it is open to anyone aged 16 or older, regardless of their professional background.
MHFA imparts general knowledge about mental health and recognizing signs of distress in individuals. In contrast, ASIST equips individuals with the tools and resources needed to assist someone in crisis, potentially requiring life-saving intervention.
No, your ASIST certificate does not expire, but LivingWorks suggests that it would be best practice to take a Tune-Up between years 2 and 3 just to make sure your skills can still promote safety and for confidence.
Every ASIST workshop is conducted by a minimum of two certified LivingWorks trainers. To attain this certification, trainers must successfully complete an intensive program known as ASIST Training for Trainers (T4T), consistently facilitate workshops, and provide ongoing quality assurance reports.
